As much as her country’s fate, she influenced the way the EU faced its challenges in the new millenium, from the 2008 Great Recession to the 2015 Migrant Crisis to 2016’s Brexit. For better or for worse, her mark will be imprinted in the EU for some time, and without her a path of unknown challenges and possibilities lies ahead.

As usual I was agonizing on Friday trying to come up with something and she just sat by my side to help me think, as she often does. “Why don’t you draw her next to a EU star, like in Hollywood’s Walk of Fame?” I’m very glad I married her.]
